Hacienda San Fernando

Hacienda San Fernando is located inside the Mindo-Nambillo Reserve at an altitude of 1367 meters above sea level.

The Mindo region is one of the best areas in Ecuador and even in the world for bird spotting. This region has received a lot of recognition, it was declared the first place for bird watching in South America by BirdLife International in 2003. The bird list includes a total of 526 species of which 1 is an endemic species to Mindo and 48 species are endemic to Ecuador, Peru and Colombia. All in all, Mindo is considered a bird watcher’s paradise.

The hacienda has 13 kilometers of footpaths along the shores of the Cinto River as well as inside the Mindo-Nambillo Protected Forest. You will walk through primary and secondary forests with plentiful areas and fields to explore. There are also a number of waterfall in the vicinity.

Hacienda San Fernando was originally a dairy farm, and this heritage is still being passed on the visitors today. Learn about the agricultural practices of the region and organic farming. At the Hacienda you can participate in milking cows, making cheese, yogurt and other dairy products as well as the preparing of jellies and jams.
